Advanced training on the Salsa reporting tool

Salsa custom reports are a task we get asked about all the time. And when PowerThru needs help with reporting, we turn to Jon Wheeler. Jon’s an expert at Salsa reports and the Salsa reporting tool, having worked at Salsa Labs with some of their biggest and most complicated clients – folks like the AFL-CIO, DSCC, DCCC and more.

Here, Jon explains how to create one of the Salsa reports we use most often – tracking new signups by supporter code: Perfect for anyone who wants to know where their supporters are coming from, and welcome and communicate with them based on intake venue (Facebook, vs a list swap, vs an event signup)

Salsa tools – Field Canvass tool for Salsa by PowerThru

Salsa tools – Field Canvass tool for Salsa by PowerThru

Use Salsa to manage all aspects of a member/fundraising door canvass with our Field Canvass tool for Salsa by PowerThru. Now Salsa can be your field tool as well as your fundraising and membership management tool.

Enter, monitor, and report results by individual canvasser, canvasser team, or canvass office.

Every conversation, donation and political action can be tracked back to the individual staffer responsible, and it’s all recorded in Salsa automatically.

Fully integrated with Salsa, all data is collected and recorded in your Salsa database in real time so credit cards process instantly, and appear in a supporter record. No more scribbled forms that need to be deciphered and entered by hand into Salsa after the fact, with multiple errors and missed donations! Outfit your canvassers with tablets for real time information collected at the door.

Also enables automated welcome or thank you emails, follow up emails for donor pledges etc. to handle followup from your door to door work, to immediately integrate new supporters into the email stream.

All parts of the tool are rigorously tested on multiple browsers, and in use right now by satisfied clients.

Salsa tools – Authorize.net recurring donation handling for Salsa by PowerThru

Salsa tools – Authorize.net recurring donation handling for Salsa by PowerThru

This Salsa package cures a limitation of the Salsa donations system: recurring payments made using an Authorize.net payment gateway are not updated in Salsa. When a supporter fills out a donation form making a commitment to a series of recurring payments, the fact of the agreement is recorded in a Salsa “recurring donation” record, but after that all transactions are triggered by and recorded in the Authorize.net payment gateway. The Salsa system never hears about those later donations, and the supporter’s record does not reflect them.

This Salsa package brings the data about those recurring payments into Salsa and matches it up with the supporter’s record so that an accurate donation history is kept.

Salsa tip – post-event sign up, what do we do with people now?

Salsa tip – post-event sign up, what do we do with people now?

We got a good question from one of our union clients (solidarity!) about what to do with people after they sign up for an event in Salsa. Our suggestion is always to immediately re-direct people to a tell a friend page (preferably one using PowerThru’s custom Salsa widget to incorporate Facebook and Twitter sharing) after a Salsa event RSVP. The moments right after someone signs up for an event or takes an action are the moments when they’re most likely to want to share the news – so we should capitalize on that!

But even if you don’t send people directly to a tell a friend page, you CAN use the Salsa event tool to redirect users to something more interesting than just a blank page with the words “thank you” on them.

Here’s how:

Too much video! How to share long video posts using Vimeo and WordPress

Too much video! How to share long video posts using Vimeo and WordPress

Another helpful training we made for our clients the National Physicians Alliance – this time on how to post a long video (like a webcast) using Vimeo and WordPress. We made this video as part of the NPA’s series of webinars during the anniversary of the Affordable Care Act. Sharing via Vimeo looks pretty similar to YouTube, check out the example above to see it in action.

Have an extra long video you want to put on your website to share with your audience? It’s a pretty frustrating situation. Because of YouTube’s video clip size limitations, it means you can’t post more than 10 minutes of video in any one clip. Rather than breaking your video into multiple segments (time consuming for you, awkward for your audience to view), this is where Vimeo comes in. Vimeo is a video sharing site, just like YouTube. Commercial businesses may need to get a PRO subscription. And it’s pretty easy to embed Vimeo video right into your WordPress site, just follow along in the step-by-step training video below.

Salsa tip – setting up a custom landing page after the tell-a-friend

Salsa tip – setting up a custom landing page after the tell-a-friend

How do you set up a custom landing page in Salsa after the tell-a-friend? We get this question all the time, this time from our friends at Vermonters for Single Payer:

I’ve been trying to figure out how to change the text found in the box after this link: http://org.salsalabs.com/o/307/t/10108/tellafriend.jsp?tell_a_friend_KEY=5339 I had assumed it would be under campaigns but I can’t find anything remotely close to it in Salsa. Meg said you might have an idea on how to go about it?
